I’m going to say something and I want you to promise me that you will read the next couple of sentences before you unfriend/unfollow me.

Promise? Ok. Here we go.

        Being gay is a choice.

Stick with me here.

I’m not saying that being attracted to one sex or the other (or both) is a choice.  It’s reasonably obvious that our biology pushes us in those directions.  The choice is to live your life authentically, based on those feelings of attraction.

It’s a choice not everybody has the luxury of making.  Some can’t because it wouldn’t be safe.  Some can’t out of fear of loneliness and isolation.  Some have been convinced that it would be so terrible, they’d rather live a lie.

Pride is all about that choice.  It’s a celebration of the freedom to make it.  It’s a recognition of the struggle that has gone on before and gotten us to where we are.  It’s a chance to push forward and challenge the barriers that remain to living honestly and openly.

Make great choices.  Support others in theirs.  Be proud.
