Nerd that I am, it tickles me that ‘raid’, 'ride’, and 'road’ are siblings. Road is an old past tense of 'ride’, because roads were travelled on horseback. 'Raid’ was a Scots version of 'road’ and meant to gallop off with hostile intent. (via @susie_dent)
