Cinderella’s glass slipper originated in a mistranslation of Charles Perrault’s ‘Cendrillon’. Cinderella actually wore a “pentoufle en vair” or ‘squirrel-fur slipper’ in the original story, but this was misinterpreted as a “pantoufle en verre”—‘glass slipper’—and the error stuck.
