The SCUNTHORPE PROBLEM is the unintentional blocking of websites or email addresses because their names happen to contain a string of obscene characters. The term was coined in 1996, when a spam filter was found to be prohibiting people in Scunthorpe from registering with AOL. (via @HaggardHawks)
