As a gay man who came out in the 80's, I have lived through a plague. I was lucky that, by the time I was vulnerable, my community knew how to protect itself and those we loved. We changed our behaviour. We did what we needed to do.

This virus is different. It’s much more easily transmitted but is statistically less likely to kill you. I imagine that since, in it’s early stages, it is affecting everyone instead of just a marginalized group of people, the medical response will happen quickly. It’s not just happening to those you love - it’s happening to your acquaintances, your colleagues, everyone.

Changing your behaviour is hard, especially when it is inconvenient or unpleasant or interferes with life’s pleasures. When you’re deciding how to respond to this pandemic, imagine that you already have the virus and act accordingly to protect the people around you. Imagine also that anyone you might come in contact with has the virus and do what you need to do to protect yourself.

Take it from me. We know what we need to do to get through this. Take care of yourself and those around you. ❤
