To stand in this blizzard of blossoms - to feel the onslaught of pinkness - is to face one of Japan’s most important moments of the year.
•
Sakura isn’t just a spectacle, it is the embodiment of the Shinto ideals of hope and renewal… and perhaps most significant of all, impermanence. •
The cherry blossoms last one brief week every year, as transient as life and health. (As transient as this weird year of coronavirus, we all hope.)
•
And its beauty, captured only in our pictures and memories.
